“I’m a Believer”

HELPFUL HINTS:

·        CHARACTER: This is a character who is already in love at the start of the song, but he is confessing that he used to have a bad attitude about love. Then he is confidently and happily saying how in love he is.

·        MOOD: Show us the contrast between the way the character used to think about love – and now how he feels about love. He is super pumped.

·        MOVEMENT: Walk around purposefully (in a way that fits with the words). Be inventive. You might like to fake tripping up on “Love was out to get me”, then be down in the dumps for the lines that follow before the chorus… THEN UP!

·        INTERACTION:

o SOLO: Interact with us (the audience) with your facial expressions, eye contact and movement as if you are telling us about your love life history, then convincing / persuading us that love is real!

o PARTNER: Interact with your partner to fit the drama of the song (this could really WOW us), but also connect with us the audience. Perhaps perform it in two big chunks, and your partner can be the ‘love interest’ while you lip-sync, then swap over…

[Verse 1]

I thought love was only true in fairy tales

Meant for someone else but not for me

Love was out to get me

That's the way it seemed

Disappointment haunted all my dreams.

[Chorus]

Then I saw her face

Now I'm a believer

Not a trace

Of doubt in my mind

I'm in love

(oooooo)

I'm a believer, I couldn't leave her

If I tried
